After the apocalypse, God talk is a death sentence.

There are those who have one purpose. They uphold the law. People who spread notions of religion will be dealt with and the bounty they’re paid makes it a lucrative field.

Now, the word is out. Whispers about Theda and the rumors about her dreams are spreading.

A bounty hunter is hot on her trail.

Who can Theda trust?

She needs a friend…and a fix.

Interesting read. This was a new concept for me, even though I like the post-apocalypse, dystopian books. In this case, it literally meant the actual apocalypse referenced in the Bible. (It's not really a Christian book though, at least not one you'd find at Bible Camp.) This book is gritty, sometimes disturbing, and sexual. But it is very interesting and while I couldn't identify with any of the characters, I was still very interested in what happened to them. I read the entire series in a weekend!

I loved this post apocalyptic thriller. You will fall in love with Theda. She is a homeless drug addict with religious like visions in a place where religion equals death. She gets gets caught up in a battle with "the beast" for who will control the new world, good or evil? Along the way she falls in love with the man whos job it is to find and bring her before the beast for judgement. This is an action packed read. The journey you take with Theda is a roller coaster ride that will leave you wanted more.
It took me a while to get into this book with the introduction being a bit confusing however once I got past the initial confusion it was a fast paced thrill ride.

The main characters Theda and Ezekiel are bound together through her power to see visions of others when she is high. As weird as that sounds it actually won't that weird in the book. It may be what causes most of the confusion in the first few chapters it soon becomes interesting as it reveals something new about each character. Ezekiel is a bounty hunter who has been paid to bring these to his master however once he learns about Theda’s power is he'll bent on protecting her from others who may cause her harm. The progression of the relationship between the two main characters is interesting and works very well alongside the individual characters development.

It gets quite confusing towards the end with secondary characters and Ezekiel as I was not sure who was working with "the beast" all along or who joined involuntarily but I suspect that will be explained more in the next episode. To be honest I didn't find any of the other characters other than Theda or Ezekiel likeable probably because they weren't there for very long or threatened Theda.

The book was well paced introducing a new problem and solution in each episode and still ending with a cliff-hanger leaving me the reader wanting more. The pacing of the relationship between Theda and Ezekiel is brilliant as it ties in nicely with everything else that is happening around them and at the end of episode 3 it leaves you genuinely what will happen next.

The storyline was intriguing and continually added new aspects that transformed the characters as each situation developed and new characters were introduced. However it could be confusing at times with situations not being described fully.

Overall I did enjoy the book and the main aspects of the storyline between Theda and Ezekiel however I did not feel secondary characters were introduced as well/ weren’t present long enough for them to make any major impact onto the story other than to pose a threat to Theda which Ezekiel dealt with.
I kept hoping it would get better...I got this in an anthology, and while it seemed gratuitously violent (graphically so), and the main character was a drug addict, the premise/overarching plot was interesting enough that it kept me reading (even if the characters made me want to stop).

I think my biggest issue ends up being that no one is likable in this series, as characters. The heroine is a drug addict with no desire to kick her habit, who seems to have no skills whatsoever...and the "hero" seems wishy washy, consistently hides major things from her, it's outright, and gives her no reason to trust him...but somehow we're supposed to be convinced that there's a budding, believable romance there?!

Side characters come in and out of the story, and sort of fun together, with a trend of their all being unpleasant, often terrible people. It was frustrating, as this was a book I really wanted to like, and I kept waiting for any of the main characters to show themselves to be anything other than utterly terrible/unlikable people (additionally, there hits a point of predictability with every character being so awful/apparently everyone abuses any person who they come across that it almost had me rolling my eyes because the author had to have yet another graphically violent beating/rape scene involving the heroine).

With that said, I'll likely skip book 2, but may eventually cave and get the third book only to see how the overarching plot resolves.
I read episode 1-9 and really enjoyed it I hope it is not over I would like to find out what happened to everyone. This is not you average paranormal romance series and that what I have enjoyed about it the most
The new series from Ms. Atkinson is engaging, addictive and will get your heart pounding in terror and anticipation of what will come next. The story is told in episodes and I've read them all so far. The post-apocalyptic story follows Theda, a drug-addicted young woman, who has a gift of visions. In this world anything remotely to do with religion is eradicated and Theda becomes under suspicion by bounty hunter Ezekiel. What happens between these two will keep you on the edge of your seat and begging that Ms. Atkinson write faster!!
I can see the world turning to crap after the end comes. With remaining people left turn to ruin. Is there hope for Theda? Can she get herself right and cleaned up before it's to late? She feels like the weight of the world is in her shoulders.
